Wasters

Proverbs 6:6-11, Proverbs 31:3 & Ephesians 4:26

We’re almost to the end of the second month of the year 2015. It’s a good time to assess if we’re on target to reach our goals. With any assessment there must be honesty and acknowledgment of anything that might be deterring you on your journey towards your destiny. Today I want to deal with three wasters that we must be careful not to allow to take up residence in our space.

Wasters? Yeah wasters! A waster is any thing or any person that consume, spend, or employ uselessly or without adequate return. Things or people that come to use to no avail or profit; to squander. What things or people have you allow that are not yielding a return on your investment or squandering what you can’t get back? So let’s get into to it!

Time Wasters
American Businessman, Alan Lakein once said, “Time = Life, Therefore, waste of your time and waste of your life, or master your time and master your life”. Once time is gone you cannot get it back. Right now the clock is ticking. Right now the seconds are passing. Now the minutes and hours are vanishing. What is eating up your time? Who is eating up your time? Are you wasting your time? In Proverbs 6:6-11 God tells us to consider the ant, think about how the ant conducts its time. Think about how the ant makes the most of its time. If the ant is a good steward of its time, making the most of every moment, what about you and I? In verse 11 there is a pronouncement regarding those that waste time through simply being lazy; the Proverb says, time wasters end up poor. Are you hindering your wealth because of poor time management? Are you not progressing because you have allowed someone to eat up your time? Take the time and think about, but just don’t think about do something about it.

Energy Wasters
What about those things that come to eat up your energy? Are you tired because you’ve been expending your energy in areas that God has never designed you to occupy? So often you can find ourselves doing things and working in areas that have nothing to do with what God has called us to do. Then we end up burned out, exhausted, frustrated and depleted because we’ve been giving our energy in a place that doesn’t ignite our passion or speak to our purpose. See, when you are passionate about the area and fulfilling your purpose you may be tired but you will still find joy in it. Are you doing something that has become joyless and destructive? In Proverbs 31:3 the mother of King Lemuel warns him not to waste his energy on women and efforts that destroy kings. You can spend so much time expending energy in an area that it profits nothing and in the end leaves you empty and broken. Energy when convert correctly creates power. Are you powerless because your conversion is off?

Emotional Wasters
Astronaut, Neil Armstrong said, “I believe every human has a finite number of heartbeats. I don’t intend to waste any of mine”. We all have emotions and how we manage them has a direct effect on our mental wellbeing. Are you wasting your emotional capital on things that don’t even deserve the attention? Are you fighting battles that don’t belong to you? We must be careful how we release our emotions, we might just be emptying them into containers that don’t have the capacity to handle them. The apostle Paul said in Ephesians 4:26, “And “Be angry and do not sin; do not let the sun go down on your anger” (ESV). In other words the emotion of angry is not the problem but it’s when we allow our anger to leak out to the point where we disobey God. Out of control emotions can create issues and do damage that takes years to undo.

So as we march into March, let’s get rid of the wasters in our live. The things, the people, the mindsets, the attitudes and the behaviors that are assigned to deplete us. Leaving us empty and unprofitable. Empty and unproductive, never reaching the goals and destiny that God has spoken over us before the foundations of the world. Begin to declare “My time, my energy and my emotions are too valuable to spend in places and on people that don’t recognize their value. I refuse to participate in wasting but I will be productive because I can’t afford the waste”.
